Live in Dallas, TX 2003

Smirnoff Music Center

I'd like to send my love all the way out to the people, who, my face is the size of a pinhead. I'd like to say hello to the people out there standing on raw earth. I assure you that if you were to get any closer you'd realize that my head is actually quite misproportionately large. That's not really a word. But this is really a song. It's called "Back to You."

[Plays "Back to You"]

This is a song from a record that I put out way back in 2001. Back when I was just a young little lad. And it makes more sense to me now than it ever has. It's for friends. It's a song about friends. It's not about love, it's about friendship.

[Plays "Not Myself"]

So, this is kind of cool. I figured with the feeling that we're kind of getting from the crowd tonight, we should play our new single for the first time ever. Would you like to hear our new single?

[Plays "Bigger Than My Body"]

So yeah, that's called "Bigger Than My Body." There it was. First time I ever played it on stage. And, of course, the cool part is that if you play a song that people don't really know, and they scratch they head and they go, "I wonder if this is really the next thing I'm expecting from you," you can always just do this:

[Plays "No Such Thing"]

[...]

We got another new song to do for you if that's all right. This song is called "Come Back to Bed."

[Plays "Come Back to Bed"]

I hope that you guys have had a pleasant evening, enjoyed yourself tonight. [High voice] Did ya have a good time? We got one more song to do for you but I just want to say thank you for sticking around and believing in what it is that I write and play. Hopefully you'll stick around for the long term.

[Plays "3x5"]

It's occurred to me in my life that the things that hurt the most are the things you can't argue with. All those truths, that you bite your lip and you go, "fuck, I can't argue with it. It's just the way it is." And everyone around you shrugs their shoulders and they all say, that's just the way it is. And that's growing up, and that's this, and that's that. And you're going, well, shit. I wanna be six again.

So I was wondering if I could sing you a little bit about the truth that I figured out in my life. Cause if I sang "Comfortable," I'd be like this and like that, but I wouldn't really be feeling it at the moment. So I'd like to play something new for you. It's how I feel, and it's called "Wheel."

[Plays "Wheel"]

Thank you. That was something. Thank you very much.

[Plays "Why Georgia"]
